Sega officially
announced today that the next installment in the Virtua Fighter series
will see a home version hit the PlayStation 3. Virtua Fighter 5
will first be available in the arcades, with a PS3 port expected in the
Spring of 2007.
Virtua Fighter 5
will see the return of 17 popular characters, as well as the inclusion
of two new additions: El Blaze, and Eileen. El Blaze is Mexican,
and favors Lucha Libre fighting, while Eileen hails from China,
preferring Monkey Kung Fu style.
While standard
arcade modes will be making a return for this game, it looks like Sega
is taking notes from recent editions of Soul Calibur, introducing modes
where players earn money to buy new items over the course of the game.
"Virtua
Fighter 5 will offer fans the ultimate next-generation fighting game
experience," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing,
SEGA of America, Inc. "For years, the industry has talked about
bringing the arcade experience to the living room. Virtua Fighter 5
fulfills this promise, and then some."
Also of note is
that Virtua Fighter 5 will 720p HD resolution.
