Sales
of Grand Theft Auto Heavily Restricted in Kanagawa
(PlayStation
2)
May 30, 2005
This week the local government in Kanagawa
Prefecture, Japan ruled that the sales of Grand Theft Auto III should be
restricted to those 18 years of age and older, designating the game as
harmful to youths for fears that the game may cause young people to "feel
like doing something cruel". This will mark the first time
that a video game has been marked as a harmful publication in Japan.
Those who continue to sell GTA III to youths under 18 could face fines
of up to 300,000 yen. Under these restrictions, game retailers
will be required to display the title separate from regular games.
