Coppola Angry Over EA's Godfather

(April 8, 2005)

According to an article running at imdb.com, Francis Ford Coppola is very angry over Electronic Arts' upcoming "Godfather" game.  In an interview set to air over the weekend on AMC's Sunday Morning ShootOut, the legendary director will discuss his disapproval of the game, mentioning how Paramount never told him that they had a deal in place with EA to make this game.  After seeing a preview of the game Coppola said, "They use the characters everyone knows ... and then for the next hour they shoot and kill each other. I had absolutely nothing to do with the game and I disapprove."

Update: Looking back through passed issues of EGM, in March 2005 there was a very large feature in it looking at EA's upcoming game.  In it one can find the following quote:

While Coppola himself has refrained from any direct involvement in the game, EA says he has been supportive of the idea. "We did meet with him," DeMartini says, "and he embraced the project--not as something he wanted to work on, but he invited us up to his private library, where we spent many hours, and we have access to all of his notes via this library. He was very gracious, but he's done three of these things and he's really not interested in doing any more Godfather stuff."
