Late
last week, Sega's Japanese headquarters was searched by authorities in connection
to an accident earlier in the week where a disabled man died after
falling from a skydiving simulator at one of Sega's Joypolis amusement
parks, located in
Daiba, near the Tokyo waterfront.
The accident occurred
because the man who fell, Junichi Tsubouchi (30), was too big to use the
ride's safety belt, and despite this the park staff let him ride it anyway, resulting
in a fatal 5 meter plunge. Sega is now suspected of criminal negligence
causing death, and company
president, Hisao
Oguchi, has admitted that
safety protocols were violated by allowing Tsubouchi on the ride.
