Sony released
their quarterly results for January-March today, and with it the company
has posted a loss off 56.5 billion yen ($533 million US), resulting from
poor sales and restructuring costs. While increased competition
from other electronics manufacturers has reduced sales in Sony mobile
phones, televisions, and portable music players, the PlayStation
Portable did mark an increase in sales for Sony's game division, as the
PSP has now sold approximately 2.97 million units to date
worldwide. Despite the losses of the fourth quarter, Sony still
made a profit for the year as a whole, making a group net of 163.8
billion yen ($1.5 billion US).
