EA to Close Maxis?

(February 27, 2004)

In a recent news piece at Reuters, it was mentioned that Electronic Arts was going to finish off shutting down Origin.  However, what was a real surprise is that there is also mention that EA will also be shutting down Maxis (or at least absorb the dev house), creators of the outrageously successful series The Sims.  Here's a snip:

EA recently said it would close the home of another studio prominent in the industry's history, "Sims" developer Maxis. Those jobs, like many of the Origin jobs from Austin, are to be moved to Redwood City.

What this means for the future of the Sims series is anyone's guess.  You can find the full article right here.
