Over the
weekend, promotional video from Microsoft's handheld device, codenamed
"Origami Project", surfaced on the website of promotions
company, DigitalKitchen, before being taken back down again.
Before this point, the device was little more than rumors, as nobody had
seen it yet, but the movie footage that showed up on the site in
question has acted as tangible proof that Microsoft is indeed working on
a sort of handheld device.
It appears that
the Origami Project is an attempt to walk the line between a PC tablet,
and a game system, judging from the promotional video. There are a
number of scenes in it that show people using the unit to control media
on their PC, listen to music, eidt photos, and play games (one sequence
shows someone playing Halo on the unit).
The unit appears
to be somewhat bulky, with users being able to operate it via a large
touch screen, and will be Windows-based. Microsoft, for their
part, have confirmed that they are indeed working on the Origami
Project, and say that more information about the unit will be revealed
"soon".
