Nintendo
Beats SCE in Worldwide Console Sales Growth
(Nintendo)
January
15, 2004
Nintendo
has beaten Sony Computer Entertainment for sales growth this past
winter. Quoting an increase of 70% in December largely due to
significant reduction in price to the Gamecube in all three major
regions (North America, Japan, and Europe).
Conversely,
Sony saw an increase in sales of about 18% in Japan between Oct. 27 and
Jan. 4 after price cuts as well as improvements in the European
market. However, performance in North America took a hit with only
2.94 million PS2s sold in November and December, a 27% decrease over the
previous year. Because of this, the PS2's worldwide sales are down
8% over November and December of last year.
