Grandia Online Announced
September 16, 2005
PlayStation 3 / Xbox
A new Final Fantasy XI expansion wasn't the only bit of online gaming news that Square-Enix had today at the Tokyo Game Show. The company also announced plans for an online Grandia game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Development of this new game will largely be handled by Gung Ho Entertainment, though series creator Game Arts will help in overseeing the project.

The main focus of the game which Gung Ho is trying hard to emphasize is that the game world in Grandia Online will be constantly changing, though outside of real-time weather effects, just how much change and growth players will see is unknown. Battles in the game will also take place in real-time.
One interesting tidbit that the development team dropped when announcing the game was that they are planning to bring back the campfire discussions found in the original |

Grandia game. For those who never played that game, ever so often the main characters would be sitting around a campfire after adventuring, discussing various things and advancing the game's story. This made a lot of sense for a single player game, but just how this will be implemented into an MMORPG has yet to be seen.
Nitty-gritty details are still lacking at this time for Grandia Online, but we'll be sure to cover those in an upcoming preview of the game at the Empire. |
