Some of the
analysts over at Bloomberg
are predicting that Konami and Capcom may be the next two Japanese game
publishing giants to merge in the midst of rising development costs, and
weaker profits. In recent years Konami has been trying to break
its dependence on the video game industry, and has already gotten the
ball rolling with their Yu-Gi-Oh! series of card games.
Nonetheless, analysts believe that Capcom may be a good match for the
publisher. Though most seem to agree that Sega Sammy would be the
better partner for the creators of Street Fighter, Mega Man, and
Resident Evil.
If
such a deal were to go through between Konami and Capcom, what remains
to be seen is whether it would be an aggressive acquisition on Konami's
part, or a mutually agreed upon merging of the two companies.
