It was announced
today that Sony plans to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide, greatly reduce its
number of factories, and cut its costs by 200 billion yen in an effort
to breath life back into its electronics divisions.
These job cuts
will result in 4,000 Japan-based employees being let go, as well as an
additional 6,000 in the rest of the world. The company will also
reduce its number of factories from 65 to 54.
While
these numbers are quite large, it doesn't appear that they will impact
Sony's games division. In fact, the company has high hopes for
their upcoming PlayStation 3 to be a major factor in turning their
fortune around
