The Best Travel Bottles Of 2020: Leak-Proof and Hassle-Free

If you’ve ever experienced a hangup at the airport, you know that the process of packing your luggage and getting it through the TSA screening process can be quite a hassle.

When transporting liquids, using appropriately-sized bottles can be a great way of reducing possible delays and inconveniences.

Many bottles are similar in appearance and function, but there are some small differences that may make one particular set better suited to your needs. We’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the best travel bottles the market has to offer.

1. Kitdine Portable Silicone Travel Bottles

These bottles by Kitdine are affordable, reliable and easy to use. They come in sets of three and can be purchased in two sizes: 3 ounces or 3.3 ounces.

Cosmetic liquids and other toiletry essentials can be stored easily and securely due to the leak-proof nature of these bottles. They’re made of food-grade silicone as well, which means they can even be used to store less common liquids like condiments.

Each bottle also sports a strong suction cup for hands-free usage and convenient storage. Portable bottles might be simple products, but these Kitdine bottles check all the right boxes.

2. Valour Leak Proof Silicone Travel Bottles

Valour’s travel bottles are a bit more expensive than the Kitdine’s, but you get four bottles instead of three, as well as two additional cosmetic jars.

The bottles store a standard 3 ounces of product, which is within TSA regulations for storing liquid in carry-ons. Each bottle comes with a removable label designating specific products (shampoo, soap, lotion, etc) to allow for easy organization.

Like most of the bottles on this list, the Valour bottles are made of BPA-free, FDA-approved silicone. Additionally, each bottle is fitted with a suction cup for your convenience.

3. LiquiSnugs Silicone Travel Bottles

These bottles also cost a little more than the more basic models, but LiquiSnugs really goes above and beyond in making their bottles 100% leak-proof. They even offer a full refund if you have any problems with how the bottles are constructed or how they function.

LiquiSnug bottles come in sets of three- two 3 ounce bottles and one 2 ounce bottle. They also come with adjustable labels for customization as well as suction pads for convenience.

These might actually be my favorites on the list, simply because they feel sturdier and more sophisticated than most normal bottles. The only downside is their slightly elevated price, but I’ve never once regretted purchasing them

4. Chica and Jo Clear Plastic Bottles

If you don’t particularly care about the aesthetic of your bottles, these Chica and Jo bottles are for you. They’re simple, straightforward and convenient, and they don’t cost a whole lot.

This set includes six 2 ounce bottles, offering you the ability to store a wide variety of different cosmetics and liquids. Each bottle is made of clear polypropylene plastic, making it easy to identify its contents and store accordingly.

If you have to buy a lot of packing bottles or you simply favor cheap yet reliable products, these Chica and Jo bottles are for you.

5. Mami & Babi Travel Bottles

This set of bottles is the most versatile on the list, containing two 2.8 ounce bottles, two 2 ounce bottles and two smaller jars for storing creams.

Mami & Babi’s product is a great choice if you have a variety of liquids to store, or if you simply desire a more flexible system of storage.

Each bottle is made of food-grade silicone and designed to be extremely leak-proof. The translucent nature of the silicone also makes it very easy to identify which liquid is stored in each bottle.

Why do you need travel bottles?

As far as travel gear goes, travel-ready bottles can be quite useful. There are multiple reasons you’d want to bring a set along on your next trip.

No leaks

Most shampoo bottles and other cosmetic containers are relatively durable, but spills, leakages and accidental openings are all fairly common occurrences. Travel bottles are specifically designed to be tough and leak-proof, and are much less likely to accidentally come open.

However, even the best constructed leak-proof bottles are capable of leaking. If you’re the cautious type, you should pack all bottles in waterproof Ziploc bags and ideally keep them separate from valuables in your luggage. There’s nothing worse than opening up your bag to find spilled shampoo slowly soaking into your clothes.

Save space

For most trips, packing a full-size shampoo or conditioner bottle is completely unnecessary. Using smaller bottles while traveling is a great way to save space and avoid wasting product.

Compliance with TSA policy

This is a big one- anyone familiar with the TSA knows that their policies and procedures can be quite strict. As far as liquids go, the TSA allows you to bring “a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint.” And within this quart-sized bag, each container can only store a maximum of 3.4 ounces of liquid. Any container larger than 3.4 ounces must go in your checked baggage.

Keep in mind that this policy applies to a variety of products, and not just “traditional” liquids. This includes things like toothpaste (although you wouldn’t necessarily need a travel bottle for that.)

Doing everything in your power to make the screening process go smoothly can be greatly helpful in reducing any delays or travel-induced headaches. So to be safe, stick to TSA approved containers and procedures. The full policy regarding liquids can be found here.
