AERIS Memory Foam Travel Neck Pillow Review

aeris travel pillow kitWe’re back with a new review! Today, let’s talk about the AERIS memory foam travel neck pillow, which comes with a sleep mask, a pair of earplugs, and a carry bag. Not to mention a lifetime, free replacement guarantee!

The extra goodies do seem to be continuing a trend towards more comprehensive travel comfort kits, instead of just single travel pillows. Like others, AERIS did a great job in that department, providing buyers with the three classic accessories needed for overall travel comfort.

What’s the AERIS pillow made out of?

As with most high quality memory foam pillows, the AERIS neck pillow is made up of three main parts:

The memory foam insert. This insert is the “guts” of the pillow. AERIS utilizes true, high quality memory foam, which reacts to the temperature of your neck in order to provide users with a custom, personalized fit.

Poor quality, “false” memory foam is all too common nowadays, so it’s good to see that AERIS didn’t skimp out for their pillow. The memory foam insert is at the center of what makes a travel pillow truly comfortable or not, and AERIS definitely did their due diligence in that regard. Check out the video below to see all three different parts of the pillow:

Outside of the memory foam innards is a fine, mesh “internal cover” that serves as a barrier between the memory foam and the outer cover. I don’t have much to say here, as the setup is typical and acceptable functional among most premium travel pillows.

On the very outside of the pillow, we have a plush, velour cover. This comfortable velour seems to be the standard for around-the-next travel pillows, and I’m delighted that it is. AERIS definitely did not cut corners here either, as the plush velour is just about as soft as any velour cover I’ve gotten my hands on in the past.

There is a zipper built in to the velour cover, so you can remove the memory foam insert at will. The cover is machine washable, and I’m very pleased to say it hasn’t lost it’s luxurious feel even after multiple washes.

The material truly is perfect for a travel pillow, and you honestly won’t want to stop touching it.

Pillow Construction

The AERIS travel pillow has some cool features that I haven’t come across before. To start, the memory foam insert has built-in ventilation holes. These are meant to keep air flowing throughout the pillow, as memory foam typically does trap much of your body heat. This is a very common problem among memory foam travel pillows, and AERIS has clearly put a lot of effort into solving it for their customers.

Now: does the ventilation work? Personally, I do think I noticed a change in how hot the pillow gets, and how long I can use it before allowing it to air out a bit.

It’s not a huge difference, but that’s just because memory foam is always going to trap a lot of body heat when in use. Either way, AERIS demonstrated a deeper understanding of common consumer issues with their product niche by even including the ventilation holes in the first place. That’s the kind of foresight and understanding you want to see in any company.

Secondly, AERIS touts their travel pillow as being “aerated for 7 days to allow the odor of newly manufactured memory foam to dissipate.” If you’ve ever owned a memory foam pillow of any sort, you know exactly what that new memory foam smell is. Some hate it, some like it, and many just accept it as a function of buying memory foam.

I’m not a big fan of the smell myself, and I am absolutely thrilled to report that AERIS’s 7 day aeration did wonders. I didn’t even catch the smallest whiff of new memory foam when I opened my pillow up, and the aeration is a standard I hope all travel pillow companies pick up on.

Some users do report experiencing the new memory foam smell regardless of the aeration, so your mileage may vary here. I personally have no complaints, however.

On a more general level, I found the pillow’s basic construction to meet and exceed the minimum expected level. The velour cover is perfectly-sized and very well-stitched, with no signs of fraying, no shoddy seams, and no unnecessary “give.”

There is a fastener/toggle cord attached to the velour cover, which is quite sturdy and does an excellent job of keeping the pillow in place during use.

Sleep mask, earplugs, and travel bag

aeris accessories

Again, I don’t have too much to say here. I was pleased with the quality of all three included accessories.

The sleep mask and earplugs are very no-frills, and simply do what they’re supposed to do. I’ve had better and worse of each, but I don’t have any complaints about AERIS’s versions.

The bag I was very happy with. It fits all three parts of the comfort kit into it quite easily, and ends up being surprisingly small and portable when closed. I measured the bag when full packed with the pillow, mask, and earplugs, and it’s approximately 10-11 inches tall and 6-7 inches wide – more than reasonable dimensions for a carry-on travel pillow bag.

My Experience

If you couldn’t tell from my review, I’m definitely a fan of the AERIS. While I do have a soft spot for luxury, memory foam travel pillows, AERIS really does do it better than most other vendors. The materials are high quality, the construction top-notch, and the company itself clearly in-tune with its customers. For me, memory foam always wins. After all, there’s a reason I use the best memory foam mattress at home!

Bottom Line: You can’t ask for much more when it comes to premium travel pillows! The AERIS memory foam neck pillow offers a comprehensively comfortable travel experience backed by a stand-up company.
